It’s rare that I re-post other people’s writing on my blog. This is mostly because I see this blog as a way to “test out” ideas that I have been playing with but don’t really have another home to inhabit. However, a friend, fellow little person, and philosopher in his own right, Bill Bradford, recently wrote an op-ed for his university newspaper that was both emotionally moving and rigorously argued. This is a rare combination, so I am sharing it with others. Here is a link and a taste:
Column: Failed health care policies become death sentence
“George W. Bush killed my brother. Okay, admittedly that was a stretch. A more likely culprit is a combination of the failed policies of the Republican Party, the spinelessness of the Democratic Party and some bad choices my brother was forced to make in his life…”

My agreement with much of this BLOG stems from my having a disability too!
While it is definitely a “stretch” to say that George W. Bush killed my brother It certainly is not “stretching” to say that the Republican Party and the Dems have BOTH FAILED us (the Disabled Community). I have been priveledged to have parents who did not want to “throw away the key” when they first beheld my severe disability (at the age of 23).
The high spinal cord injury (SCI) I received in January 1977 became the source of my disablity-pride, although before my SCI happened I too was bigotted towards people with disablities (now, I am one !). Humor in this statement is ironic, yes?…
Now, we must advocate, once again, for ourselves, as no one else will. The able bodied chooses to disregard us, but, we will eventually “have the day” and hopefully this secondary bias will be erased, if not from our conscience, at least the books

I neglected to enter into my comment that I had finished my BS degree BEFORE the injury stopped me. But after, I completed my M.Arch (1st prof. deg.) and am now going forward to claim my Doctorate in Theogy and Apolgetics. So much for indeterminism …
